Your report scores your website across six areas. Three of them, SEO, AEO, and GEO, can sound like the same thing. They are not. Here is what each one actually covers and why all three matter now.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
What it is: Making sure Google and other search engines can find your website, understand what it is about, and rank it in search results.
- What it covers: Page titles, headers, meta descriptions, alt text on images, internal links, and whether your site loads correctly on mobile devices.
- Why it still matters: SEO is the foundation. If Google cannot crawl and understand your site, none of the newer AI-driven visibility below is possible either.
AEO (Answer Engine Optimization)
What it is: Making sure your content is set up to be pulled out and shown as a direct answer, not just listed as a link.
- What it covers: FAQ sections, clear direct answers near the top of a page, structured data that tells search engines this is a question and this is its answer, and content written the way people actually ask questions.
- Why it matters now: More than half of Google searches now end without anyone clicking a link. The answer just appears at the top of the page. If your content is not built to be pulled out as that answer, you do not show up at all, even if you would have ranked well the old way.
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)
What it is: Making sure AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity can find your business, understand what you do, and mention or recommend you when someone asks a question you could answer.
- What it covers: Clear, consistent information about who you are and what you do, real evidence of expertise such as case studies, specific numbers, and named authors, and structured data that helps AI systems trust and cite your content.
- Why it matters now: People are starting to ask AI assistants questions the way they used to type them into Google, things like who is the best service near me or who can help me with this problem. If AI tools cannot find good evidence about your business, they will recommend someone else, even if your website ranks fine in traditional search.
How they work together
Think of it as a ladder. SEO is the foundation. It makes sure your site can be found and understood at all. AEO builds on that foundation to get you pulled into direct answers instead of just ranked links. GEO extends that even further, working to get you mentioned and recommended inside AI-generated answers themselves. Your Roadmap addresses all three because a gap in any one of them limits what is possible in the others.
